TL;DR — Monkey App Review 2026
Monkey is a free random видеочат app that matches you with strangers for face-to-face chats, alone or with a friend. It runs in the browser at monkey.app and on Android, after Apple removed it from the App Store over safety concerns. Basic matching is free, while Monkey Plus adds country selection, unlimited matches and no ads, and coins buy gifts. Its terms say 18+, but safety groups report there is no real age verification. Rating: 3/5.
- Best for: Adults who want quick, swipe-style видеочаты on Android or the web.
- Cost: Free; optional Monkey Plus subscription and paid coins.
- Standout feature: Duo mode, where you and a friend meet a stranger together.
- Skip it if: You want strong moderation or an iPhone app.
Monkey is one of the best-known apps for random видео chats with strangers, and it grew quickly after Omegle shut down in November 2023. If you have seen the old monkey.cool address, our Monkey Cool review explains how that domain now redirects to monkey.app.
The previous version of this page described extra safety layers and robust filters. Independent safety reviews do not support those claims, so this review has been rewritten around what Monkey offers today.

What is the Monkey app?
Monkey is a random video чат app that pairs you with strangers locally or worldwide for жить, face-to-face conversations. You can chat on your own or invite a friend into a duo chat with a stranger, swipe past matches you do not want, view profiles and revisit past matches under Recent Connects.
How does Monkey work?
Monkey works like a swipe-based version of classic random chat.
- Open monkey.app in a browser or install Monkey from Google Play.
- Create an account and allow camera and microphone access.
- Start a solo chat, or invite a friend for a duo chat.
- Talk by video, voice or text, and swipe to move on.
- Report anyone who breaks the rules, and leave if a chat feels wrong.
Monkey features
Monkey’s features centre on fast matching and social extras.
| Характеристика | What it does | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Random video matching | Pairs you with a stranger | Instant face-to-face chat |
| Duo mode | You and a friend meet a stranger | Less awkward for groups |
| Swiping | Skip to the next матч | You stay in control |
| Recent Connects | Shows past matches | Reconnect with people you liked |
| Monkey Plus | Country choice, unlimited matches, no ads | Paid extras |
| Report tool | Flags rule-breaking users | Moderation is mostly reactive |
Is Monkey free?
Yes, Monkey’s basic random matching is free. Monkey Plus is an auto-renewing subscription that unlocks country selection, unlimited matches and an ad-free experience, and coins bought with real money pay for virtual gifts and matching with specific people. We could not verify current Monkey Plus prices.
Monkey pros and cons
Monkey is fun and fast, but its safety record holds it back.
| Плюсы | Cons |
|---|---|
| Free random video matching | Removed from Apple’s App Store over safety concerns |
| Duo mode with a friend | No real age verification |
| Swipe-style skipping | Moderation mostly reacts after problems |
| Works in the browser | Paid features push you towards coins |
| Recent Connects to find people again | Broad data collection, per Internet Matters |
Is Monkey safe?
Monkey is only reasonably safe if you are careful. Internet Matters reports that it claims machine-learning moderation, yet users still describe sexual ads and explicit content, and the app collects data such as IP address, date of birth and location.
