TL;DR — Emerald Chat Review 2026
Emerald Chat is an Omegle-style stranger chat with one-on-one text and video, interest matching and group channels, run by Connected Software Inc. Its karma system and AI plus human moderation make it calmer than most tilfeldig chats, but you need an account, the useful filters are paid and its age check is criticised as weak. Rating: 3/5.
- Best for: Adults who want Omegle-style chat with more moderation and a reputation system.
- Cost: Free; Gold and Platinum upgrades for filters.
- Standout feature: Karma scores that reward good chat partners.
- Skip it if: You want free gender filters or å chatte without an account.
Emerald Chat grew in popularity as people looked for a safer take on the classic stranger chat, and it is still one of the more polished options. Much of the older information about it is out of date: it now requires an account and has mobile apps. If you are comparing it with the original, the history of Omegle and why it closed explains what these sites are replacing, and our guide to the best Omegle replacements ranks the main contenders.

What is Emerald Chat?
Emerald Chat is a tilfeldig chat platform that matches you with strangers for one-on-one text or video conversations, with optional interest matching and group channels for topic chat. It sits in the same space as newer Omegle clones like Uhmegle, but adds a karma reputation score and more visible moderation, which is its main selling point.
How does Emerald Chat work?
Emerald Chat works by having you sign in, pick a chat mode and get matched with a stranger.
- Open emeraldchat.com or install the Android or iOS app.
- Create an account with email and password, or sign in with Google or Facebook.
- Choose one-on-one text or video chat, and add interests if you want topic-based matches.
- Chat with your kamp, then rate the conversation, which feeds into karma.
- Skip to a new partner, join a group channel, or report and block anyone who breaks the rules.
Emerald Chat features
Emerald Chat’s features are built around better-quality random chats rather than pure speed.
| Trekk | What it does | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| One-on-one text and video | Random chats in either mode | Start by typing, move to video when ready |
| Interest matching | Pairs you with people who share topics | Fewer dead-end conversations |
| Group channels | Topic-based group text rooms | Somewhere to chat between random matches |
| Karma system | Users rate each other after chats | Rewards good behaviour and flags trolls |
| AI and human moderation | Automated checks plus 24/7 human moderators | Faster action on rule-breakers |
| Gold and Platinum filters | Gender, country, language and karma filters | More control, at a price |
How much does Emerald Chat cost?
Emerald Chat’s core text and video chat is free. Gold and Platinum upgrades add gender, country, language and karma filters and picture sending, but Emerald does not list their prices on its homepage, so check the price in the app before you subscribe.
Emerald Chat pros and cons
Emerald Chat is better built than most random chats, but the best tools cost extra.
| Fordeler | Ulemper |
|---|---|
| Free text and video chat | Account required |
| Karma system discourages trolls | Gender and country filters are paid |
| AI plus human moderation | Age check criticised as checkbox-only |
| Interest matching and group channels | Low iOS rating (1.5/5 from few ratings) |
| Android app rated 18+ | Upgrade prices not shown upfront |
Is Emerald Chat safe?
Emerald Chat is safer than most random chats because of its moderation, karma and report tools, but it is not risk-free. Parent-safety site SmartSocial (July 2026) says its age check is only a checkbox and cites a news report of a criminal case linked to the app, and the site’s claim of end-to-end encryption sits awkwardly with moderators being able to review reported chats.
- Use a username and profile that reveal nothing about your real identity.
- Keep identifying details out of your camera view.
- Do not move chats to other apps with people you have just met.
- Rate and report rule-breakers so the karma system works.
- Never send money or personal photos to strangers.
18+ only: Emerald Chat’s Android app is rated 18+, and Camround is strictly for adults too.

Emerald Chat is best for adults who miss Omegle but want more structure, moderation and a way to see who has been a good chat partner. If you would rather skip the account and go straight to video, you can start a free one-on-one video chat on Camround, or try a lightweight option like Joingy.
